Water Line Services

MyGuy Plumbing Background

MyGuy Plumbing & Drain handles water line services across Ocean and southern Monmouth County, from leak detection and repair through to full trenchless replacement. We’re family-owned and based right here in Toms River.

Water Line Services for Toms River & Wall Township Homes

In Ocean County, our sandy Coastal Plain soil drains quickly without leaving telltale signs of a leaking water line. Many homeowners first realize there’s a problem when their water bill suddenly increases. The expert plumbers at MyGuy Plumbing & Drain start by figuring out the root cause of the issue and then recommend how to fix it.

Our water line installation services cover new builds, additions, and outbuildings that need their own supply. We size the pipe to match your usage, handle the township permits and inspection, and bury it deep enough to stay below the frost line so it doesn’t freeze in winter.

Water line repair

We handle all water line repairs, whether it’s a cracked section of pipe, a failed fitting, or other damage. We’ll pinpoint the damage and test the line after repairs are complete to make sure the repair holds. If the pipe can’t be repaired, we’ll let you know.

Water line replacement

If you’ve had us out for the same leak repair more than once, the pipe is failing along its length, or it can’t be repaired, we’ll explain what’s going on and recommend the line be replaced.

Water line maintenance

Regular water line maintenance helps us spot corrosion, dropping pressure, and small leaks early. We’ll run an annual pressure check, read your meter for hidden movement, inspect the pipe where it enters the house, and clearly explain our findings.

Water line leak detection

If your line is leaking, we’ll use acoustic listening equipment, pressure testing, and thermal imaging to pinpoint the leak to within a few feet without digging up your yard, and recommend next steps.

Main water line & water service line services

A water line is the general term for any pipe carrying water. The main water line is the utility’s pipe running under the street, and the utility is responsible for any water main leaks. Your water service line is the pipe that branches off the main line at your property boundary and runs into your home. If you’re not sure which side your leak’s on, we’ll find out before we start work.

Underground water line repair & replacement

If you have an underground water leak, we identify it first, and then recommend the best way to handle it. We try to manage it without unnecessary excavation.

Trenchless water line repair & replacement

Where the water line runs under a driveway, patio, mature landscaping, or a deck, we’ll look at trenchless water line replacement and repair options first to minimize damage and rebuild costs. Trenchless options aren’t right for every home. They need space for an access pit at each end of the line, a route without sharp bends, and the line can’t have any other utilities buried too close to it.

Pipe bursting

If your line can be replaced without a trench, we use pipe bursting, a trenchless repair method that feeds a bursting head through the old pipe, splits it outward, and pulls the new one into place behind it.

How Do You Know If Your Water Line Needs Attention?

If you notice any of the following, contact MyGuy Plumbing & Drain for an inspection:

  • Low or inconsistent water pressure: A gradual drop across the whole house usually means corrosion is narrowing an older line, which will keep narrowing until it fails altogether.
  • Unexplained increase in water usage: If your water bill suddenly jumps, turn everything off and watch your meter. If it’s still moving, you have a leak.
  • Wet or unusually green areas in the yard: Wet or unusually green areas due to leaks are less common here than in clay-soil parts of the state, so if part of your lawn stays suspiciously green, there could be a sizable leak on your service line.
  • Water pooling near your home: Water surfacing near your home’s foundation usually means a break in the section of line closest to the house. It can cause significant structural and interior damage, as well as mold.
  • Discolored or muddy water: If discolored or muddy water comes from every tap, it could be due to corrosion in an older galvanized pipe or soil getting in through a cracked underground pipe.
  • Sounds of running water when everything is turned off: If you can hear water moving when everything’s off, something’s leaking, most likely inside a wall or under a slab.
  • Loss of water to part or all of the home: Losing water everywhere usually means you have a broken water line. Losing water in only part of the house means the problem’s in your pipework, somewhere between the meter and the tap.

Water Line Repair or Replacement: Which Does Your Home Need?

MyGuy Plumbing & Drain can help you determine whether your home needs a water line repair or a full water line replacement.

When water line repair may make sense

Water line repair is usually a viable option if the pipe is mostly sound apart from a specific break, and you haven’t had trouble on that line before. We’ll fix it, test it, and leave it in place.

Why an inspection matters before replacing a water line

Just because a line is old or leaking doesn’t mean it needs to be replaced. An inspection helps us identify the problem, and if a repair will hold, we’ll let you know.

When water line replacement may be the better option

Replacement is the more advisable route if:

  • The pipe is cracked or corroded.
  • The water line requires frequent repairs.
  • You’re experiencing low water pressure across the whole house.
  • Your line is galvanized steel, or was installed before 1986 and may contain lead.

FAQs About Our Water Line Services

A residential water line typically lasts 50 years or more if it’s copper, and longer if it’s modern plastic. Galvanized steel lasts 40 to 50 years before corrosion closes it up, but New Jersey law treats galvanized lines as lead lines and now requires they be replaced by 2031.

You’re responsible for the section running from your property line to your house. The utility owns the pipe from the main up to that point. If a leak turns up, we’ll locate it first so you know who to call before anyone starts work.

The cost of water line repair or replacement depends on the length of the pipe run, its depth, what’s on top of it, and if it’s a single repair or a full replacement. We’ll locate the problem, explain your options, and give you a price to approve.
